Rally Tires — My First Upgrade

I bought the TT-02 to be a dirt rally car, so rally tires were the first upgrade I made.

I went with inexpensive Amazon rally tires that came pre-glued. The stock tires worked okay on dirt, but the rally tires made the car feel more predictable.

A few things stood out:

  • Tire height: The rally tires are taller, and on a car this low, even a few millimeters makes a difference off-road.
  • Dirt performance: The extra clearance helped on my backyard track, which is mostly soft dirt and sand with some leaves and small twigs.
  • Body clearance: The taller tires require raising the body to prevent rubbing, so the car doesn’t look quite as scaled.
  • Motor load: The larger tires can put more load on the motor and potentially make it run hotter.
  • Pavement: I only use these wheels on dirt, so I don’t wear them out on pavement.

Rally vs. Stock:
See how the two tire setups compare on my dirt track.

Bottom line: The rally tires made the TT-02 more predictable on my dirt track, and I’d buy them again.

What I Used: Cheap Amazon pre-glued rally tires/wheels
