RC Caster Tuning is one of those things that is more of a preference in diving style. but also plays a role in performance on the track. This post will show how to tune your caster in the simplest form possible.

More Caster
- Less initial steering response.
- More camber gain.
- More straight-line stability.
- More stability in bumps.
- Usually, people with a more aggressive driving style will want/need more caster over normal track/car setups.
- Rule of thumb… more chassis roll needs more caster (aggressive driving style creates more roll in the chassis).
- generally more forgiving, and easier to drive. I would suggest new racers start with a bit more caster over normal setups for your track/car.
The reason you generally see more caster on off-road vehicles is they have more chassis roll (higher center of gravity, more weight, softer suspension). So you’ll need more caster to keep the tire flatter/ contact patch in the turn as roll increases.
Less Caster
- More initial steering response.
- Less camber gain.
- Wonder more in a straight line.
- Less predictable in bumps.
- Usually, people with a less aggressive (more technical/ precision) driving style will want/need less caster over normal track/car setups.
- Rule of thumb… less chassis roll needs less caster (less aggressive driving style creates less roll in the chassis).
Less caster will make the car more responsive until the car starts to roll. If the chassis roll becomes too high you will lose steering, for the tire will want to roll onto the sidewall.
