Summary of what Ride Height is adjusting.

  • increases rotation.

Losi XXX-T CR with Increasing Ride Height tuning.

Increasing Ride Height

  • increases weight transfer.
  • decreases stability.
  • better in bumps.
  • more overall grip.
  • decreases rotation.

Tip #1 I find most setups you want the front to be set at arm-level and the rear to be at axle-level. this gives the best overall stability to grip-level. also, since the front is slightly higher it does better in the bumps, faster initial steering response, but makes the front less aggressive (because of less weight on the front) and a more overall consistent feel. the axles are more level height, so you are able to get maximum power and efficiency (making it well suited for stock and low power racing).

Tip #2 reasons to lower ride height. #1 if the car is traction rolling (gives lower overall grip). #2 if you can’t get the car to turn, usually from having too much grip (helps increases rotation).

Tip #3 reasons to increase ride height. #1 if the bumps are upsetting the car (mostly due to ground clearance). #2 generally increasing ride height does not give much of an advantage. yes, you get more grip, but it gives a higher “center of gravity” so it just usually flips you or becomes too unstable. making the extra grip most of the time unusable. in addition to the loss of power, and increase stress on the drivetrain. I would recommend not going much higher than arm level… even if you’re bashing a monster truck and you need extra ground clearance it’s normally better to do it with bigger tires over a lift.
