The stock TT-02 comes with a 22T aluminum pinion, and mine didn’t last long.

A few things may have contributed:
- Gear mesh: I may not have had the mesh set perfectly, which can increase gear wear.
- Driveshaft: A LiPo balance lead got caught in the driveshaft, which made the car suddenly feel weak. The pinion teeth ended up bent over, and the car became noticeably noisy.
Spur Gear
The stock spur gear was also starting to show wear, so I replaced it with the 68T High Speed Gear Set.
Replacement Pinion
I replaced the damaged pinion with another stock 22T Tamiya aluminum pinion. I wanted to switch to steel, but finding a 22T steel Module 0.6 pinion was surprisingly difficult.
Note: The new setup is holding up better, but aluminum pinions are still a weak point. If you can find a good Mod 0.6 steel pinion, I’d recommend it.
What I Learned: Check your gear mesh carefully, keep wires and LiPo balance leads away from the drivetrain, and use a steel Mod 0.6 pinion if you can find one.
