Lipo Batteries (Q&A)

What does the numbers on LiPo batteries mean?

#S = Cell count (1S, 2S, 3S…). #V = Voltage (3.7v, 7.4v, 11.1v…). #C = Discharge rate or burst rate (25C, 50C, 100C…) #mAh = Capacity (2200mAh, 3000mAh, 5000mAh…). More info at rogershobbycenter.com – A Guide to Understanding LiPo Batteries

What does 50c mean on a lipo battery?

The (c) in 50c for capacity. The (c) number is how much power/current the battery can give at one time. If you have a low (c) number and use an ESC, Motor, or anything that puts a high load on the battery – it could overheat and melt things. A good test is to run your car at full speed for a few passes and touch the wire on the battery side. If it’s too hot to touch you most likely need a higher (c) battery… More info at rogershobbycenter.com – Discharge Rating (“C” Rating)

Lipo storage voltage 2s?

(7.6 volts) Storage voltage is around 3.8 volts per cell… So a 2s lipo should be around (3.8×2) 7.6 volts… More info here rctech.net – Storage voltage for 2s Lipo

How to store lipo batteries at home?

A LiPo storage bag… keep in mind keep it away from flammable material and Storage voltage is around 3.8 volts per cell… More info here wikihow.com – How to Store Lipo Batteries

Storing lipo batteries fully charged?

It’s not a great idea to store lipo for a long time at full charge. The reason is there reaction/movement in the battery is higher at full charge – so you have more stress on the battery. More info at dronebotworkshop.com – Storage Voltage

Storing
lipo in the freezer?

Not really recommended but cold environments will slow down the reaction/resistance to movement. So it should be safe but you will need to warm up the battery before use if not the life you gain (if any) in storing might be lost in the heating process.

What is the max voltage of a lipo battery?

4.2v per cell. (so a 4s = 16.8v max) If you go much over this number you risk the pack rupturing or even worst fire!

What is the minimum voltage of a lipo battery?

Keep above 3v per cell. (so a 4s = 12v min) An easy way to remember it is 3.2v for minimum and 4.2v for max. Try to keep it over 3v per cell – the lower you go under 3v the harder it is to bring the battery back to life (if you can).

What is the best lipo battery charger?

Lipo chargers don’t need to be super powerful to work well. You really don’t want to charge them at a high rate. So a high-end charger and a cheap charger should charge around the same rate. “One place I would not cheap out on – is to get a charger with a digital screen”. This will help you – read out the voltage – not overcharge your lipo – see if you are close to under voltage at the end of runs – get the right storage voltage… More info here dronenodes.com – Best Lipo Charger 2022 Comparison (Top 5 Picks)
